Food Storage - A Quick Tip

Sure, I hear you can buy tubes of tomato paste.
Handy toothpaste tubes full of tomatoey goodness.

And, I hear you can buy pesto and even mint in such tubes, too. But, I haven't seen those tubes. Or, if I'm in stores that sell them I certainly never remember to look for it. (I'm sure Trader Joe's or Whole Foods MUST sell those tubes, right?)

For me, this works.
I use a tablespoon of tomato paste in sauce, or chili or whatever...then I freeze the rest laying flat. When I need a tablespoon, I break off a chunk. Nope, it's not an exact measurement and I'm okay with that.

I also do this with adobo sauce in those tiny 69 cent cans of chipotle peppers. A small corner of frozen adobo can bring a lot of flavor to the party when you are making tacos or even tomato basil soup out of a can.

I'll be sharing this tip over at Heather's Cooking With My Food Storage linky party.

I measure out tablespoons of tomato paste onto a peice of plastic wrap on a cookie sheet. stick the cookie sheet in the freezer for a few hours, then roll up the plastic wrap and put your pre-measured tomato-paste balls in a plastic baggie and the baggie in the freezer. quick access to pre-measured tomato paste whenever you need it.
