31 Days To a More Organized Life: Day 2 - Grab Those Gift Cards

Did you miss Day 1 of our series?

"Tasks that take 31 Minutes or less to make your life...just a little bit easier!"

Today's tip is a bit ironic.
My step-son just found his wallet and found a couple of gift cards in it. Score! (He has a few different wallets, since duct tape wallets are all the rage. And, he sorta misplaced one.)

This task is quick, easy, and since you might "find some treasure" like my step-son, it might just be fun.

First, grab all of your gift cards.
If you are like me, there are some stuck in the car. Some in the wallet. Kids have them in their rooms...some in a stack of birthday cards, etc. And, don't forget to include those punch cards from Jimmy John's and your local burrito place. I also grabbed my Jewel/Albertson's card and Dominick's/Safeway card. We'll be talking about those, too.

Next, grab a sharpie...
And if you need to, write each person's name on their cards. I found that I had a bunch of receipts wrapped around my cards - showing the remaining balance. So, I simply wrote the left-over amount on the card and tossed the receipts. If you have some Visa Gift Cards you can usually call the number on the back to find the balance.

My pile was a big big for my liking.
So, here's where I purged. No, I didn't toss away money. I thought about whether I could reduce the volume. First, I sure don't need my Border's card anymore. Next, I tossed my Jewel and Dominick's cards. Sometimes they give you those keyring cards - which makes the full-sized card redundant. More importantly, they keep their database by phone number. I was able to dump a few of those type of grocery and pharmacy cards.

Now keep my cards in a cute little ID wallet.
A lot of you know that I'm a big fan of Etsy and that I have two shops, Cafe D and Rustic Wedding Style. I love Etsy - both buying and selling. So, that's where I picked up my cute pink wallet. (The gal I bought mine from no longer sells them, but you can do a search and find something just the perfect size and material for very little money.)

And, a ziploc makes a perfectly lovely "green wallet."
